Merleen Martin-Forde

Merleen Martin ForMerleen Martin Fordede describes herself as ‘marvelous Merleen, born under the wonderful sign of Pisces, in the village of Sparendaam on the East Coast of Demerara.’ She attended Cummings Lodge Secondary School, on the lower East Coast, followed by studies in Georgetown at the Business School, Critchlow Labour College and the E.R. Burrowes School of Art, where she took one-year evening courses in painting, ceramics, textiles and leatherwork from 2006 to 2009, and a course in fashion design in August 2012.

She has worked as a secretary at Guyana Stores Limited from 1979 to 1982 and at Construction Management Combine Ltd. from 1986 to 1989, and also as Administrative Manager at Minelli Products/Engineering Ltd. to 1993, and as a part-time teacher at the Open Doors Centre for persons who are differently abled.

She has exhibited her work at GuyExpo exhibitions; the Empretec Fair; Go-Invest Canada; Women in Business; and in the Guyana Women Artists’ Association annual exhibitions since 2006.

She has been self-employed as a Designer/garment manufacturer/crafter/artist since 1996 operating under the business name Merls Divine Creations.
